I’m so pleased to see the rise in new fashion brands launching with sustainability and a slower fashion ethos at the core of what they do. When Yue from recently launched UK brand Má + Lin contacted me to ask if I would style some of her pieces it was a quick response, absolutely yes! I was so impressed by not only her zero waste, fully transparent supply chain but also how beautiful and chic the styles are. Simple linen blouses with a modern yet timeless feel to them. Pieces that work hard and effortlessly into your wardrobe in easy natural shades with feminine attention to detail. Yue has previously worked for British fashion label JW Anderson and said that " ...after witnessing so many highly negative environmental impacts in the fashion industry, I know I must do something.” Má + Lin is mindful of the environment and the impact of fast fashion and it’s so important to see brands who care so much in these challenging times.
Each style is crafted from either a luxurious and heritage Belgian Organic Linen or Irish Linen fabric - a lovely medium weight that is suitable to wear all year round. Linen is sometimes seen as a Spring Summer fabric when in fact it’s suitable to wear all the time, plus did you know it’s the perfect non-allergenic textile too due to it’s unique qualities? Linen is one of the most environmentally sustainable fibres to produce and it has a low water requirement. It feel soft and breathable on your skin - there is nothing like the comfort of luxurious linen!
Each Má + Lin style is made-to-order only which means they only produce what has been pre-ordered in order to minimise the waste. This is such an important concept in the slow fashion revolution and I have been shopping more and more in this way recently (see brands such as Johanna Sands and Percy Langley who also work in this manner). A made-to-order item is crafted just for you., it takes time. But unlike the racks of mass-produced clothes in any department store, you get a quality item, minimising waste. I think that this revival in the way we shop is only going to gain momentum as climate action becomes more and more urgent.
The styles n the collection have a vintage inspired feel that I’m drawn to. I played around styling them back with some of my go to wardrobe pieces such as jeans, dungarees and gilets and they work so well, almost like a more modern luxurious T-Shirt! They can be versatile layering pieces that can be dressed up or down. These are elegant wardrobe essentials that form part of a capsule wardrobe with a shape to suit everyone.
The styles I’m wearing are Roxane Blouse in Natural, £129, Claudine Blouse in Natural, £129 and Victoire Top in Terra, £135
