It’s coat time! Whether you are pulling out last years, searching for something on eBay, in your local charity shop, thinking of investing in a forever piece or just wanting to update your look here is my guide to AW20 coats. The main trends that are out there, with longevity, that I’m supporting are: CHECKS, QUILTING, SHACKETS, PUFFER and OVERSIZED. Of course you can’t beat the classics which come out every year - trenches, Barbour waxed jackets, pea coats, parkas and timeless wool coats in black, navy or camel.
The PUFFER jacket (aka Duvet Coat) is going nowhere fast! It’s back again for another season and I’m always so happy to see such great choice out there in this practical cosy jacket style! A bit like a mini duvet this will keep you super warm throughout the long cold months. Short, long or belted - anything goes! I find Arket, Cos, Ganni, Monki and M&S always have a really good selection.
CHECKS and plaid were big news on the catwalks and the good news for us is they are so easy to wear! If I could invest in any check coat it would be one from Isabel Marant who always makes the best ones. SHACKETS also seem to come into this category as there are plenty of check options around and H&M offer the biggest selection on the high street right now. This will be your go to everyday casual coat style.
QUILTED jackets, as previously discussed in my transitional key pieces post (see here) get bigger and better for winter. Long and wrap styles look super chic. Ganni even offer matching quilted collars! On the high street Arket and & Other Stories have nailed it.
OVERSIZED coats make for the ultimate in easy dressing - chuck them on over any outfit - from jeans, tee and trainers to smart dress and heels - it always makes you look chic. There are plenty of options with belts too to cinch you in should you prefer a more feminine look.
