August means thinking ahead to Autumn and the recent cooler and windier weather here in the UK has definitely got us thinking about a change in seasons. It’s made me think about what I already have in my wardrobe and how I may want to think about updating it and styling it this season.
I have done a round up of the five ‘trends’ that I think will take you into Autumn and beyond, in fact you probably have many of these in your wardrobe already but in case you are after some inspo I have a done a shopping edit with my top finds. I have to say I personally think the biggest trend to come out of this year is a turn to more sustainable shopping - ethical, vintage, second hand and clothing rental sites are going to be massive and I am so excited to see a change in the air with how people are thinking. Whilst this is predominantly a high street round up I have tried to include some smaller, indie and second hand resources here too.

Statement Collars
Be it on blouses, knits, shirts or dresses, statement collars are BIG this season. I blame it on the Copenhagen catwalk shows and specifically Ganni! It’s a micro trend that is now having it’s big moment for AW20.
I love a vintage inspired collar and it works so well on many levels - be it as workwear, layered under jumpsuits, dungarees and dresses or with a knit over the top. The styling opportunities are endless. There is a variation for everyone but the question is how big will you go?! Bring on the big collar energy!!
There are plenty of high street versions but also lots of smaller brands such as La Veste whose sell out School Shirt styles are top of my wishlist. Pretty and Preppy Knits
I am so excited to see some pretty vintage inspired knits coming through. Ruffles, collars and embroidered details give a retro feel and I have also seen lots of knitted vests, tanks and gilet styles that are perfect for transitional layering.
I am completely obsessed with this small hand knit (how I wish I had the skills!) brand Mad Brown Knitwear! All the vintage vibes and supporting sustainable fashion. Maison M often have drops of vintage knits with all the cool vibes so keep an eye on their insta and website for updates. Small brand Wyse London also have some gorgeous cardis and knits on pre-order which you can check out here. Another brand I have discovered via Instagram is Vita Grace who have all the pretty knitwear pieces.
Quilted and Patchwork Jackets
A quilted or patchwork lighter jacket is the perfect end of summer into Autumn piece. Handmade with a pretty vintage feel or khaki and utilitarian depending on your vibe, this little piece will keep you warm into October. Wear with jeans or over a pretty dress with chunky boots.
I love a good vintage jacket and whilst Isabel Marant has been doing great versions for years I have also become obsessed with these sustainable Danish brand Sisel Edelbo one of a kind ones and Canadian brand Honeybea. Dilli Grey and Jaba Yard are small brands that make a good quilted jacket so check them out too. I love the return to the handmade feel that is coming through in fashion at the moment, these are little jackets to live and be loved in :)
Checks, Gingham & Ruffles
It’s time to get your check on! Personally I have been embracing checks all year so already have plenty in my wardrobe but this season the gingham dress is queen and there are so may good ones around. Check out small brands Sideline, Cawley Studio, April Meets October, Benjamin Fox, Justine Tabak, Gemma Marie The Label and Molby The Label to support smaller sustainable fashion.
Utilitarian Boots (aka the Chunky Boot)

Prada, McQueen and Ganni all showed us how to do a good chunky boot on the catwalks for AW20 so if you are thinking you need to 're-boot’ this year then think about a flat practical boot to give your looks a refresh. Chunky heavy soled boots are big for Autumn Winter. Hiker, biker and Grenson Nanettes still work but many have been updated in white, animal print or contrast coloured soles.
The pull on chunky Chelsea boot really appeals to me - practical and looks good back with floaty dresses or jeans and dungarees. Here are my top picks…
