Finlay Fox went to the launch of the new baby wear label, Lala & Zizo, in Portobello last week. The collection has been lovingly created by Vickie El Rayyes, who has poured her heart and soul into these beautiful pieces. There is a real trend to heirloom and heritage these days with people wanting to buy less and invest more in pieces that will last and can be handed down. This collection sums it up - collectable timeless heirloom pieces - 'Treasures for you little treasures'.
I could relate to a lot of the styles in the range, they reminded me of my own childhood growing up in the Far East with trips to Bali and India. The embroideries and soft cottons have a real nostalgic feel to them and my absolute favourite piece is the vintage bird embroidered smock dress. Butterfly, zig zag and block prints dominate with so much attention to detail on each piece. The range is perfect for the warmer days ahead and holidays in the sun - kaftans, smock sun dresses, harem pants, cotton shirts and shorts. I loved the boys Jaipur kaftan and harem trousers, actually I say boys but they are really unisex, in fact I'd quite like a set for myself!
The clothes have a real Bohemian eclectic feel to them - a nice change from the big monochrome and casual trend that has dominated baby and kids fashion recently. The range is for 6 months to 3 years and prices range from £20 for a baby grow to £69 for an Embroidered Sundress set. Also how incredible are these shots for the collection?! It was so hard to pick my favourite ones!
Vickie, a self confessed child of 'hippies' has a background in fashion buying and she has lived and travelled all over the world but India is her real passion and touchstone. This baby bohemian brand is named after her two children and I can't recommend it enough, we love it. Well done Vickie!!
Here are a few pics I took on the day - I hope you can see the love and attention to detail that has gone into every piece!
