Finlay Fox went along to the launch of the brand new 'Smile' by Julien Macdonald baby and toddler collection for Mothercare earlier this week. Julien Macdonald - yes the British Fashion Designer famous for his red carpet dresses and glamorous designs! Mothercare - the global affordable parenting retailer! Sounds like an odd combination right? Well two things make it work 1) He has two godchildren who he is surrounded by and who inspired the collection and 2) he's a dab hand at occasion wear dressing meaning he has created some great limited edition baby occasion wear pieces (which are always so hard to find and buy for babies). I also thought the range would make a great newborn or baby shower present for someone who prefers the more traditional pink for girls and blue for boys dressing (or leopard print!).
The collection (which is for 0 - 2 year olds) was super cute, playful and fun. The baby girls range was filled with bunnies, bubble gum pink and leopard print, very girly indeed! Honey is the character based on Julien's goddaughter and she adorns baby grows, booties, bibs and hairbands. The quality and attention to detail such as gold piping and exposed zips are great for the price points (ranging from £10 - £50). The boys range was themed around blue and orange with a cheeky tiger motif and lots of 3D tiger ears. The limited edition occasion wear range, perfect for weddings and christenings, included pretty tulle and tutu dresses and baby all in one tuxedos (amazing value at £25).
