If you are into dungarees, thinking of buying some dungarees or simply looking for some styling inspo then this is the blog post for you! They are such a versatile piece (see my research Pinterest board here) and I wanted to share how easy it is to get loads of different outfits out of them. Also by looking at what you have lurking in your wardrobe you may even find some cool new inspiration in ways to wear them. So this is my dungaree styling session, wearing an old pair of black Topshop dungarees (see here for similar and please note I tend to buy tall as I have a longish body and want to avoid camel toe! I’m 5’7) and my top 6 looks for wearing dungarees for AW18…
1) Rollneck & Biker/Ankle Boots
A simple plain, stripe or printed jersey rollneck is a great way to turn your dungarees into something more Autumn/Winter friendly. This leopard print one is from Whistles but there is a cheaper alternative one from Warehouse here. The biker boots are from M&S (currently sold out online sorry) but any flat boot or ankle boot will work well - you can always roll the hems up a bit as they look better when the hems finish above the boots.
3) Vans, Jersey Rollneck and a Trench
A good dropping the kids off then going for a cuppa with a friend in town look! Vans often release special edition/ fun prints on their iconic slip on trainers, I found these leopard one a few years ago but the classic checkerboard ones are fun too.
This trench is a lightweight one from Topshop earlier this year so great for transitional but M&S have a brill heavier weight hooded one that I’ve been lusting after and it even has a hood! See here.
4. Knitwear and Loafers
Chuck a knit underneath for those more wintery days. There is a heap of fab knitwear this year and the statement sleeve is a big trend. My knit is from last year but I have found Whistles, Warehouse and River Island to have some styles worth checking out. Otherwise pull out that cashmere jumper for a more classic look. Stripy knits always look chic too. I’ve teamed them with my Leopard Loafers from M&S
5. Pretty Blouse / Faux Fur Jacket
This is a bit of a signature look for me! I have loads of these blouses/ boho tops/ shirts in my wardrobe as I’m sure you do too. There is something that just seems to work so well about the prettiness of a blouse with the utility feel of dungarees. Zara and H&M have a good selection of tops if you feel you need to find something. I have styled it for cold days with a faux fur coat from H&M (currently sold out in this colour online) but a Borg / teddy jacket would work well too. These red flats are old Topshop but a ballet type shoe or even a backless loafer would also work well.
6. Heels and a Blazer
This instantly makes the dungarees feel more grown up and dressy. Roll the hems to show more ankle. These are old Cos shoes and the blazer is also old but there are loads of fab blazers around as they are so on trend at the moment. Some statement earrings would also work well here.
And just to show you a different style of dungaree - wide leg in a print if you are feeling brave! Again styled with a pretty blouse underneath. Mine are old Topshop but Monki often have a selection.
