Christmas Gifts: A Folk Tale Slippers

Slippers - the ultimate Christmas gift right? RIGHT! As a mum you spend so much time at home, more than ever before, so it's nice to have comfy slippers to slide your feet into - the ultimate go to home comfort, plus staying in is the new going out right? I discovered these handmade embroidered slippers by A Folk Tale on Instagram recently and was completely taken by their folksy felted looks and bright coloured threads. They feel nostalgic and hand crafted and that's why I'm in love with them, everyone that sees them wants them!

Anya, a teacher, set up the business after being continually asked where they were from after bringing them back from her parents homeland, Poland. Soon to be a mum herself, she has set up her small business as the perfect mat leave opportunity, good on her and I'm sure she will do really well! As part of my series of #ShopSmall #ShopIndependent this Christmas, I'm very happy to feature them on my blog. Me and Violet were kindly sent a pair to test out - and I can confirm they are as good as they look!

These handmade felted wool slippers are based on the traditional footwear of the Gorale (highlander) folk in Poland. They are unique, comfortable and stylish in beautiful and bright designs. They are very much like an indoor shoe - comfy but sturdy enough to wear outside if you need to. The rubber sole means that the slipper can be worn indoors and outdoors, perfect for kids who end up running outside! The slippers are machine washable (recommended at 30 degrees).

These slippers are made by one man in a small mountain village in the Polish mountains. He is an artisan of slippers for 40 years; he moulds the felt and embroiders the traditional designs. Each colour way is unique and he uses the felt available from his local store. This means they cannot take requests of specific colour combinations of felt and stitching. But the colours are so good it doesn't matter!
